Active Tameside have shared with the wider community Yunus Ahmed’s contribution to TMBC Young People’s panel as part of the recruitment process for the new Chief Executive.

Yunus demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of the role and the impact the Chief Executive has on the lives of people in Tameside, especially young people with SEND. Throughout the day Yunus was fully engaged, listened attentively to candidates and asked thoughtful questions.

After each candidate debrief sessions took place where panel members shared their scores and gave feedback about how the candidate performed, Yunus was comfortable in doing this and gave a clear summary of his views.

Active Tameside are thankful to Yunus for his contribution to TMBC Young Peoples interview Panel. His participation was not only a success but a clear demonstration of the importance of involving young people, especially those with SEND, in decisions that shape the future of our communities.

Yunus said about his experience:

“Being part of the Young People’s Panel for the Chief Executive interviews at Tameside Council was a brilliant experience. It helped me build confidence, improve my communication skills, and give a voice to young people with SEND. I learned how important strong leadership is for making positive changes in our community.”

Aiden Hopkins – SEND Participation Officer (Tameside) said:

“Yunus conducted himself impeccably and should be extremely proud of his efforts, approaching the experience with enthusiasm, professional curiosity and a strong sense of responsibility.

What stood out was Yunus’ confidence to share his thoughts honestly. There was a specific occasion where Yunus asked a candidate if they wished to expand on their answer which other young people had not done, displaying his initiative, compassion to others and a level of maturity to the task at hand. This helped make sure the process was balanced, inclusive and decisions were reflective of the whole panel.

We hope this experience inspires Yunus and others in Tameside to continue sharing their voice and engaging in similar opportunities.”
