Tameside’s 0–25 SEND Strategy 2025–2028: A Continued Journey of Improvement
The launch of the updated 0–25 SEND Strategy for 2025–2028 is a key milestone in the ongoing journey to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND across Tameside. This strategy has been shaped through extensive consultation with children and young people, parents and carers (via our Parent Carer Forums), schools, health professionals, and wider local partners. It reflects the findings of the May 2025 OFSTED/CQC SEND Local Area Inspection, and incorporates the Priority Actions for Improvement agreed with the Department for Education (DfE) and the SEND Local Area Inspection Board.
A Strategy Built on Listening and Learning
The inspection findings were a wake-up call. They highlighted areas where our local SEND system has not been working well enough for families. We’ve listened carefully to what children, young people, and families have told us—and we’ve used that feedback to shape a strategy and improvement plan that is honest, ambitious, and focused on real change.
This strategy sets out how we will:
- Improve early identification of needs
- Strengthen joint working across education, health, and care
- Ensure families are fully involved in decisions about their children
- Enhance support for children who are neurodiverse or have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Build a more inclusive and responsive local offer
This is not just a document—it’s a shared commitment across the local area to do better. It has been agreed by the DfE and endorsed by the full SEND Local Area Inspection Board. It will guide our work over the next three years as we continue to improve services, rebuild trust, and ensure every child and young person with SEND in Tameside is seen, heard, and supported to thrive.
