Elective Home Education (EHE)

Parents and carers must ensure their child receives efficient and suitable full time education whilst they are of compulsory school age. Some parents may decide to educate their child at home. If you decide to home educate your child you are responsible for providing your child’s education and for any costs involved. You must also satisfy the education welfare service that you are providing a good standard of education.

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), then you can still choose to electively home educate your child.

If your child attends a special school then you must contact the local authority and obtain their consent before removing your child from their school. The LA will arrange for a review of your child’s EHCP and will want to discuss your plan to educate your child.
