Tameside Educational Psychology Service are working together with Tameside Mental Health Support Teams to provide support to schools to develop Whole School or College Approach to mental health and wellbeing. This is a free offer to support with auditing and action planning, either through the Emotionally Friendly Settings programme or using the GM standards. We can also offer direct support and training to help school staff support their own wellbeing and school community until March 2026.
Barriers to Education (BtE) / Emotional Barriers to School Attendance (EBSA) for parents/carers, schools and practitioners
Tameside Educational Psychology Service offer support around Barriers to Education (BtE) / Emotional Barriers to School Attendance (EBSA) for the large number of families affected by children and young people struggling to access education. For parents and carers, we offer online workshops covering key messages as well as a series of six in-person ongoing support sessions to create the opportunity to build a support network. School staff can access both BtE/EBSA virtual training and Group Action Planning sessions (for smaller groups where cases can be presented anonymously and a written action plan is produced). Multi-agency drop-ins are available for any professionals wanting to access anonymised professional support.
Research
We would also like to highlight the research that has been carried out over the last few years by the service, this includes around approaches to supporting young people experiencing emotionally based school avoidance to supporting children affected by parental imprisonment: Research – Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
