There is a lot of information circulating about the SEND reforms, and we know many of you have questions about what the changes will mean for children, young people, and families across Greater Manchester.

To support you, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has produced a clear and helpful Parent/Carer Q&A, which explains the key points and may answer some – or even all – of your questions. As Tameside sits within GMCA, this guidance is directly relevant to our area.

There is also a consultation open right now, and it’s really important that as many parents, carers, and professionals as possible share their views. Completing the consultation will help ensure that your voice is heard and that future plans reflect the needs and experiences of our community.

If you need any further information or support, please do get in touch.

This communication from the Greater Manchester SEND Strategic Partnership provides a clarity around the proposed SEND reforms as outlined in the White paper (Every child achieving and thriving (HTML version) – GOV.UK) released on Monday 23rd February 2026: Greater Manchester SEND Strategic Partnership Communications on the SEND Reforms
