Upcoming SEND Co-Production Workshops

Following the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) co-production workshops at the end of last year, Family Hubs Parent Carer Panel invites families of children with SEND to have their say again. They will be discussing themes such as accessibility of information, how inclusive our spaces are for families, and groups and activities that can provide support, and you will work with them to co-design SEND spaces and services that truly work for families.

The Family Hub Parent Carer Panel recognises that parents are the experts in their own experiences and your involvement is so valuable in helping them support families across Tameside.

When: Tuesday 3rd February, 10-11.30am, West Family Hub

We’ll be discussing how we can make our spaces more “SEND Friendly” using the 15 Steps toolkit. What is the 15 Steps Challenge? A way to identify improvements that can be made to a space and to understand service users’ first impressions of how they will be treated and cared for in the space. Is the space:

  • Welcoming?
  • Safe?
  • Caring and inclusive?
  • Well-organised and calm?

We will be choosing a shortlist of spaces to complete the Challenge, including parks and playgrounds.

When: Thursday 12th February, 10-11.30am, Stamford Park Pavilion Café

We will be thinking about stay and play activities for children with SEND, especially during the holidays, and considering in particular older children and those with higher level needs. We’ll be taking the next steps toward setting up a parent/carer-led stay and play group for children with SEND in Family Hubs.

Evening session via Microsoft Teams (date TBC)

We know that not everybody is able to meet during the day or in-person. If you would prefer to join an online, evening, workshop, please express your interest and we will get back to you. This online session will cover the same themes as our in-person workshops.
