Understanding Sensory Needs: An Introduction for Tameside Parents & Carers (Live Webinar)
Understanding Sensory Needs: An Introduction for Tameside Parents & Carers (Live Webinar)
Wednesday 11th March 6.30-7.30pm
Tameside are pleased to offer a free online evening session for parents and carers, introducing the new Tameside Sensory Needs Toolkit.
This one-hour session will support parents and carers to:
- Understand what we mean by sensory needs and why some children experience the world differently
- Recognise some common sensory needs at home and at school
- Understand how sensory needs can affect behaviour, emotions, learning and everyday routines
- Learn how the new Tameside Sensory Needs Toolkit can be used in a practical, supportive way
The session will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams and is designed to be clear, accessible and reassuring. No prior knowledge or diagnosis is needed.
Delivered by Sadie Charlton, Specialist Occupational Therapist, who has worked for many years with children and young people with sensory and regulation needs across NHS Sensory Pathways, Virtual Schools, CAMHS, and educational settings. Sadie works closely with schools and families to support children whose sensory needs impact behaviour, emotional wellbeing, learning and attendance, and brings a practical, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed approach grounded in real-world experience.
Following the 1 hour presentation, there will be optional time for questions about sensory needs or how the toolkit can be used.
The main presentation will be recorded and made available after the event so families who cannot attend live can still access the information. This session is suitable for parents and carers of children of all ages, including those with SEND, who are neurodivergent, or have emerging SEND needs.
