We are proud to launch our updated 0–25 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Strategy for 2025–2028—a key milestone in our ongoing journey to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND across Tameside.
This strategy has been shaped through extensive consultation with children and young people, parents and carers (via our Parent Carer Forums), schools, health professionals, and wider local partners. It reflects the findings of the May 2025 OFSTED/CQC SEND Local Area Inspection, and incorporates the Priority Actions for Improvement agreed with the Department for Education (DfE) and the SEND Local Area Inspection Board.
A Strategy Built on Listening and Learning
The inspection findings were a wake-up call. They highlighted areas where our local SEND system has not been working well enough for families. We’ve listened carefully to what children, young people, and families have told us—and we’ve used that feedback to shape a strategy and improvement plan that is honest, ambitious, and focused on real change.
This strategy sets out how we will:
This is not just a document—it’s a shared commitment across the local area to do better. It has been agreed by the DfE and endorsed by the full SEND Local Area Inspection Board. It will guide our work over the next three years as we continue to improve services, rebuild trust, and ensure every child and young person with SEND in Tameside is seen, heard, and supported to thrive.
