Splash Class is a six week course offering a SEND friendly introduction to swimming for 0-6 year olds. It has been funded by a donation raised by 16 year old Rory Kaye especially for the Mencap Family Engagement Project in Tameside. The course will be hosted by a member of the Mencap team and run by a SEND qualified swimming instructor.
When: Wednesdays 1.30pm – 2.30pm. Starting 5th November
Where: Aqua Nurture, Knott Ln, Gee Cross, Hyde SK14 5BS
Aqua Nurture run an amazing hydropool centre which is perfect for this session. There is a café on site and a family room, as well as plenty of free parking.
The sessions are designed to give an introduction to water and allow development of basic skills, build confidence and most importantly have fun! We know how difficult it can be for parents of children with emerging SEND to access activities like this, so we have a limited class size, a specialist SEND qualified instructor and our Mencap team on hand to help. The sessions are designed to use a 1:1 ratio and all parents/carers will be in the water with their children. Completing activities together builds strong relationships and aids communication and social skills, as well as creating wonderful memories.
Families need to be registered with the project via this form https://forms.office.com/r/yKJU3TWwH3
Once registered, they can sign up for the swim class here: https://forms.office.com/e/ZbsiAXDqY1
Due to limited class size, families may need to go on a waiting list for the next course. A member of the team will be in touch to confirm any dates of the courses.
