Manchester Music Foundation are partnering with Tameside Music Service to deliver the Music for Life project.
The aim is to connect with young local musicians, producers or sound engineers aged between 16 and 24 who are currently NEET to deliver a bespoke, innovative mentoring programme, which will help them to explore the available options for a career in the music and arts sector. The program will also allow them the opportunity to be creative, receive expert guidance and support with their creative process which will culminate in a celebration event to acknowledge their achievements.
Whilst taking the shape of music and arts-based workshops, these sessions will be focussed on developing life and career skills necessary to be successful in the arts or other sectors of employment.
The project will run for 3 x 10-week blocks across the academic year, and we are looking for a cohort of around 10 young people to take part in each block from across Tameside. Sessions will take place at Oxford Park Community Sports Centre every Thursday 1-3pm and be facilitated by 2 Tameside Music Service tutors.
They will be following the academic year in terms of session dates which are as follows…
Block 1: 2/10/25 to 11/12/25 with a break on 30/10/25 for half term.
Block 2: 15/1/26 to 26/3/26 with a break on 19/2/26
Block 3: 16/4/26 to 25/6/26 with a break on 28/5/26
In addition to the weekly Thursday afternoon group sessions, each participant would also receive one free 2-hour session with a TMS tutor working in their area of interest i.e. guitar, vocals, song writing, or music production at Tameside Music Service centre in Dukinfield. This session would take place at a convenient time arranged for the participant.
