How SEND Support is Helping Local Families

Find out how the Mencap Family Engagement Project and SEND Health Navigator Service have been helping families across Tameside and how to access their support.

Mencap Family Engagement Project

  • 115 families are registered with over 60 parents working with Family Connectors for 1:1 support.
  • There are four regular in person groups with approximately six sessions per month. More than 200 parents or caregivers have attended face-to-face sessions.
  • 156 children have attended SEND play groups.
  • The project has co-produced sessions with six local services.
  • 83 parents or carers attended information sessions on Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

What Families Say
“Thank you for all your support over the past year. We are ending the year on a high as we have been awarded DLA (for son) which will be a massive help for him and us. Thank you so much we didn’t even know DLA was available to us till you both told us.”

“Thank you for all your support this year. Really appreciate your help at the start of the year we had no DLA, no EHCP, no autism referral. Now we have a band 3 EHCP, DLA and just this week an accepted referral to the MAAT pathway.”

“Brilliant thank you Jen. You don’t understand how much yours and Tiffany’s help and support mean to mean right now. At one point I felt like I was drowning but now I feel like I have 2 people at least who understand my point of view.”
